A Classical Approach to Education
Classical Educational Services and The Classical School exist to serve families and schools committed to a classical approach to education. Classes for home-educated students, tours, field trips and consultation services for families and schools are offered to promote Christian and classical education.
The Classical School offers classes for students in grades three through twelve.
Subjects are taught through the methodology known as the Trivium (grammar, logic, and rhetoric), the educational foundation of our Western culture. We ground all that we seek to do upon the revelation of God, both in creation and in Scripture, with the former being interpreted by the latter. The triune God of Scripture has created an ordered universe, which can only be fully known through an orderly submission to His revelation of Himself in Scripture.
In line with this vision for education, we commend the following works that will help restore a classical and Christian framework for education.
- Deuteronomy, Chapters 4 - 11
- The Lost Tools of Learning by Dorothy Sayers
- Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning by Douglas Wilson
- The Well Trained Mind by Jessie Wise and Susan Wise Bauer
- Teaching the Trivium by Harvey and Laurie Bluedorn
- Classical Education: Towards the Revival of American Schooling by Gene Edward Veith, Jr. and Andrew Kern
- For the Children's Sake by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay
