Rebuilding a solid foundation
Established in 1999 under the auspices of an established Christian school in the greater Atlanta area, The Classical School became an independent school in 2003. Small tutorial style classes, focused attention on the individual student and his unique style of learning, and a highly challenging and rich academic environment characterize the program. The label “school” may be misleading. It certainly does not refer to the modern notion of group behavior modification bureaucracies. In the classical world one became educated through reading and discussion. In fact, the word school is rooted in the words for leisurely discussion. This is a far cry from our 21st century (and highly evolved, progressive) “schools”. At Classical, people who naturally desire to inquire and investigate life are given the opportunity and freedom to read, think and discuss meaningful and enduring works of literature. The mental sweat that is generated from these studies leaves them with the satisfaction of accomplishment and purposeful work well done. The Classical School offers weekly classes for students in grades three through twelve. The Trivium, characterized by the grammar, logic and rhetoric stages of learning, is the classical method of teaching. This approach to education, which, contrary to contemporary “educrats,” is perfectly “developmentally appropriate,” was the standard form of education until the Progressives of the early Twentieth century began the process of dumbing down the schools. As was true for most of the Founding Fathers of the United State of America, Classical grounds all inquiry and study in the revelation of God as it is presented in the Holy Scriptures and creation. |
