Mr. G. (My oldest daughter) was challenged… (My younger daughter) was challenged... Mommy was really challenged…. Therefore, you did your job!!! Thank you for teaching my girls to think this year. Thanks for “raising the bar” and having high expectations for them. Thanks also for encouraging me to hang in there and help them hit the bar. (Mom of daughters in Year One and Year Three )
Dear Steve, …(our daughter) was reminiscing on her past three years in class…The first thing she said was that Mr. Gilchrist has taught me to think! Wow! What a comment coming from a student. We were so impressed that (she) realized that you had helped her develop a discerning and analytical mind…You have helped instill in her a confidence that she can achieve things she never believed she could do. (Parents of a Year Three daughter)
Classical School is like a college class, at least that is the way I see it. There are a lot of fun components, but we are studious when we need to be. I like Mr. Gilchrist as a teacher and as a person outside the classroom. I feel like he knows each of us personally and tries to learn things about us…My final thought is that Classical is hard, but in a good way. The kind of difficulty that we face in this classroom pushes us to succeed in ways that we would not be made to do in a public classroom. (Boy in Year Three)
Just wanted to say thank you again for all you are doing to help us educate our kids. You are an inspiration to them (and us), and I am glad I had the opportunity to see you interact with them throughout the week in D.C. You can be assured that as they look back on their years at (Classical), you will have been an integral part of their educational and spiritual development. (Father of a Year Four daughter)
What I miss about Classical Classical was a wonderful experience for me. I learned a lot of interesting ideas, perspectives and worldviews. What I miss the most about Classical would probably be the creative and thought-provoking questions and discussions we had in class each week. I miss the laughter, smiles and stories we all shared. I miss writing papers that really expressed my thoughts and views on topics. I loved connecting and relating ideas, topics and people to various subjects. I also miss the exhausting but breathtaking trips we took to D.C. and Williamsburg. Those are some of my best memories. Each day was filled with beautiful sights, interesting people and fun-filled adventures. Classical challenged me. That is what I miss the most about Classical. My mind would not be what it is today without Classical. I have become a critical thinker because of Classical. I have learned how to analyze everything I hear, read and see so that I will not accept facts and opinions too lightly. I miss the texts we read. I miss discussing the Bible the most. I enjoyed reading almost every book we read. The Hiding Place was my favorite book we read. I miss the lengthy, but much needed, Bible discussions we had each morning. I looked forward to each class with much eager (sic) and anticipation. I knew each class was full of exciting adventure. I know that everything I learned and did in Classical has benefited me in great ways. I am so glad I chose Classical! (Girl who graduated and went to public high school reminiscing about “the good old days”!)
